Hastelloy Balls for Chemical and Hot Gas Service
REDHILL supplies Hastelloy balls for valves, pumps and flow control systems. However, each alloy offers a different mix of chemical resistance and strength at high temperatures. Therefore, choose the grade to match the fluid, heat and load in your system.
Hastelloy C-276 Balls
Hastelloy C-276 resists attack from many acids and chloride solutions. For example, engineers consider it for hydrochloric and sulfuric acid service. In addition, it resists pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in chloride solutions. However, acid strength and temperature affect its corrosion rate.
Key Material Data
- UNS designation: N10276
- Nominal main elements by weight: Nickel base, Cr 16%, Mo 16%, Fe 5% and W 4%
- Density at room temperature: About 8.89 g/cm³
Applications
As a result, C-276 is an option for fluid control parts where chemical attack limits the use of stainless steel. For example, potential uses include:
- Chemical dosing and metering valves
- Pump check valves
- Flow control parts in chemical and petrochemical plants
Hastelloy X Balls
Hastelloy X combines strength at high temperatures with resistance to oxidation. As a result, engineers consider it for parts that face hot gases. In addition, it offers resistance to creep, or slow deformation under a steady load. However, the safe working temperature depends on the load, gas mix and length of service.
Key Material Data
- UNS designation: N06002
- Nominal main elements by weight: Nickel base, Cr 22%, Fe 18% and Mo 9%
- Density at 22°C: About 8.22 g/cm³
Applications
For example, potential ball applications include:
- Valves that control hot gas flow
- Flow control parts in furnace systems
- Instrument valves that face high temperatures
Therefore, assess the complete valve or mechanism when choosing X alloy for hot service.
Hastelloy C-22 Balls
Hastelloy C-22 has more chromium than C-276. Therefore, it often offers better resistance to oxidizing fluids. In addition, it resists pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride solutions. For example, engineers consider it for wet chlorine and mixed chemical streams. However, the full fluid mix matters when choosing the grade.
Key Material Data
- UNS designation: N06022
- Nominal main elements by weight: Nickel base, Cr 22%, Mo 13%, Fe 3% and W 3%
- Density at room temperature: About 8.69 g/cm³
Applications
For example, potential uses include:
- Valves and pumps for mixed chemical streams
- Dosing systems for chemical treatment
- Flow control parts in wet scrubber systems
Ball Grades, Sizes and Ordering
REDHILL offers metric and inch ball sizes. In addition, ask us about custom diameters. For guidance on size and form tolerances, see our precision ball grades. Finally, send us the alloy, diameter, quantity and working conditions so we can review your requirements.
The figures above show nominal main elements and typical densities. Hardness and strength depend on the material condition and production route. Therefore, specify any required mechanical properties and tolerances with your inquiry.
