Phenolic Resin Balls for Pumps, Valves and Mechanical Devices
Phenolic resin balls combine low weight with a hard, rigid surface. REDHILL supplies them for pumps, valves and mechanical devices. As a result, they offer an option for designs that need less moving mass than steel balls.
Key Material Properties
The figures below provide reference values for fabric-reinforced phenolic. However, molded grades and other formulations can differ.
- Composition: Phenol-formaldehyde thermoset resin.
- Structure: Cross-linked resin with fabric reinforcement or fillers, as specified.
- Hardness: Approximately 100 Rockwell M for selected fabric-reinforced grades.
- Density: Approximately 1.30–1.40 g/cm³ for selected fabric-reinforced grades.
- Electrical Properties: Insulating grades; performance depends on formulation and moisture.
Also, confirm the continuous and short-term temperature limits for the selected material.
Benefits of Phenolic Resin Balls
The hard surface helps resist wear during repeated contact. In addition, the low weight reduces the mass of moving parts.
Chemical resistance depends on the resin and reinforcement. Therefore, match the material to the fluid, concentration and working temperature.
Applications of Phenolic Resin Balls
- Pump and Valve Components: Check balls and closing elements for suitable fluids.
- Mechanical Devices: Contact elements and lightly loaded rolling parts.
- Measuring Equipment: Balls for designs that require low weight and a firm surface.
However, load, speed and moisture can affect wear and fit. Therefore, include these conditions when choosing the material.
Available Grades and Sizes
- Precision Classes: GI, GII and GIII, subject to the agreed tolerance specification.
- Diameter Range: 1/8 in–3 in, equivalent to 3.175 mm–76.2 mm.
Availability depends on the material, diameter and precision class. Finally, send us your size, material requirements, quantity and working conditions so we can confirm suitable options and lead time.
