- Composition: Mainly silica (SiO₂), sodium oxide (Na₂O) and calcium oxide (CaO), with other oxides depending on the glass grade.
- Structure: Amorphous glass.
- Hardness: Approximately 5.5–6 on the Mohs scale, depending on composition.
- Density: Approximately 2.5 g/cm³.
- Electrical and Magnetic Properties: Electrical insulator and non-magnetic material.
Because soda-lime glass has limited thermal shock resistance, heating and cooling conditions matter. Therefore, confirm the temperature limits for the specified glass. Also check compatibility with the fluid and cleaning chemicals, including concentration and exposure time.
Surface Quality and Sealing
Smooth, polished surfaces help balls seal against suitable valve seats. However, sealing performance also depends on the seat geometry and fluid. Therefore, define the ball diameter, roundness and finish for the complete assembly.
