NRB Needle Rollers with Flat Ends
REDHILL supplies NRB needle rollers with flat ends for needle roller bearings and cage assemblies. Their long, slender shape suits designs with limited radial space. As a result, they support compact bearing layouts in transmissions, gearboxes and machinery.
Flat End Geometry
NRB identifies rollers with flat end faces. By comparison, NRA rollers have rounded ends. However, the end-face shape and rolling surface profile are separate features. Therefore, specify both on the product drawing.
Key Technical Specifications
- Material: Through-hardened 100Cr6 (1.3505) bearing steel, commonly cross-referenced to AISI 52100.
- Hardness: Typical reference range of 60–66 HRC after heat treatment. Confirm the final range for the roller size and order.
- Reference Standards: DIN 5402-3 and ISO 3096 for steel needle roller dimensions and tolerances.
- Precision Grades: G2, G3 and G5, subject to size and order requirements.
- Diameter Sorting: Specify both the precision grade and the diameter sorting group.
- Surface Finish: Specify maximum Ra values for the rolling surface and end faces.
For example, 0/−10 µm describes a diameter deviation band, while G2 describes a precision grade. Therefore, confirm both requirements when ordering.
Roller Guidance and Contact Profile
Roller length, end geometry and cage clearances affect roller guidance. In addition, a suitable rolling surface profile reduces stress peaks near the contact ends. Therefore, match the roller geometry and clearances to the bearing design. Surface finish and lubrication also affect friction and wear.
