Titanium Carbide Balls – High Hardness and Wear Resistance
REDHILL supplies titanium carbide balls for selected valve and wear applications. Titanium carbide (TiC) combines high hardness with a lower density than steel. As a result, engineers consider this material where wear resistance and low mass matter.
Reference Material Properties
- Hardness: Mohs 9–9.5
- Density: About 4.93 g/cm³
- Melting point: About 3,160°C
- Thermal conductivity: About 21 W/(m·K)
- Electrical resistivity: About 68 µΩ·cm
- Crystal structure: Cubic, NaCl-type, Fm-3m
These figures describe the TiC material itself. However, the exact composition, binder content and porosity can change the properties of finished balls. Therefore, confirm the material grade and required properties with your inquiry.
Material Benefits
High hardness helps TiC resist abrasive wear. In addition, its lower density can reduce mass compared with steel parts of the same size. As a result, TiC offers an option for wear parts where both surface durability and weight matter.
However, hardness alone does not show how well a ball will withstand impact. Therefore, assess shock loads and contact stress when selecting the material.
Applications of Titanium Carbide Balls
Applications include balls and matched seats for selected pump and valve designs. For example, TiC-based grades serve in oilfield valve assemblies. In addition, these balls offer an option for flow control parts that face abrasive wear.
However, the fluid, mating seat and contact load determine the suitable grade. Therefore, match the full ball and seat system to the working conditions.
Temperature and Chemical Compatibility
The melting point is a material reference rather than a working temperature rating. Therefore, assess the grade against the heat, atmosphere and time in service. In addition, check chemical resistance against the full fluid mix.
Ball Grades and Sizes
- Ball grades: G5–G100
- Diameter range: 0.3 mm–100 mm
However, confirm the available combination of size, grade and material before ordering. Finally, send us the diameter, tolerance, quantity and working conditions so we can review your requirements.
