ZB Cylindrical Rollers with a Logarithmic Profile

REDHILL supplies ZB cylindrical rollers with a logarithmic rolling surface profile. The profile introduces a slight drop in diameter toward the roller ends. As a result, it helps reduce stress peaks at the edges of the roller-raceway contact.

Load Distribution and Alignment

Logarithmic profiling spreads the load more evenly along the raceway contact. In addition, it can reduce sensitivity to small alignment errors or shaft deflection. However, the allowable misalignment still depends on the complete bearing design. Therefore, define the profile and alignment requirements for the specific assembly.

Key Technical Specifications

  • Standard Steel: 100Cr6 (1.3505) bearing steel, commonly cross-referenced to AISI 52100.
  • Hardness: Typical reference range of 60–66 HRC after heat treatment. Confirm the final range for the roller size and order.
  • Rolling Surface: Ground and superfinished, with logarithmic profile relief near both ends.
  • End Faces: Specify their shape and finish separately from the rolling surface profile.
  • Reference Standard: DIN 5402-1 for cylindrical roller dimensions and designations.
  • Tolerances: Specify diameter, length, roundness, profile and sorting requirements separately.

In addition, we can review AISI 420C and 440C stainless steel options. The steel grade and heat treatment determine the final material properties.

Typical Applications

For example, suitable bearing designs can use ZB rollers in:

  • Gearboxes and Industrial Drives: Radial bearing assemblies under heavy loads.
  • Motors, Pumps and Compressors: Radial shaft supports.
  • Machine Tools and Motion Systems: Roller assemblies that need controlled load distribution.

End-Face Contact and Lubrication

End-face shape and finish affect contact with guiding flanges. Therefore, specify these separately from the logarithmic rolling profile. Also include speed, radial and axial loads, lubricant and temperature when selecting the roller.

Available Sizes and Custom Requirements

Availability depends on the material, diameter, length and tolerance requirements. We can also review custom sizes, special sorting and matched sets.

Finally, send us your drawing, material, quantity and working conditions. We can then confirm suitable options, availability and lead time.
