AISI 420C Stainless Steel Balls for Bearings and Valves

REDHILL supplies AISI 420C stainless steel balls for bearings, valves and mechanical devices. This martensitic steel combines high hardness with wear resistance. However, corrosion resistance depends on the fluid, temperature and surface condition.

Material Designations: AISI 420C, 1.3541, X47Cr14.

Key Technical Specifications

The following figures provide typical reference values for 1.3541 (X47Cr14).

  • Composition: Carbon 0.43–0.50%, chromium 12.5–14.5%, manganese ≤1.0%, silicon ≤1.0%, iron balance.
  • Structure: Martensitic stainless steel in the hardened and tempered condition.
  • Hardness: Typically 52–60 HRC after heat treatment; confirm the required value for your ball size.
  • Density: Approximately 7.7 g/cm³.
  • Magnetic Properties: Magnetic material.

Hardness and Corrosion Resistance

The hard surface helps resist wear during repeated contact. As a result, 420C suits rolling and sealing duties in compatible conditions. In addition, a smooth finish supports contact with the mating part.

However, seawater and some acids can attack this steel. Therefore, match the material to your fluid, temperature and cleaning process. Also specify the hardness, ball grade and surface finish that your assembly requires.

Applications of AISI 420C Stainless Steel Balls

For example, common uses include:

  • Bearings and Guides: Rolling elements for mechanical assemblies.
  • Pumps and Valves: Check balls and sealing elements for compatible fluids.
  • Instruments and Mechanisms: Precision contact and locating elements.
  • Consumer and Automotive Products: Ballpoint pens, lighters and automotive mechanisms.
